Whether you live in the area or are just visiting St. Louis, consider checking out Suson Park. Located off 21/Tesson Ferry southwest of 270, it is a fantastic combination of public park and farm.

Some things to consider before you go:

  • A donation box is located as you enter the park. One dollar per vehicle is suggested, but not required.
  • I find it best to visit the playground first, particularly in the morning, and then head to the barns to see the animals. This tends to help us avoid the inevitable crowds on the playground as the day progresses.
  • The playground is new, with a nice foam underfoot, and geared for kids ages 2/3-10-ish.
  • The barns open daily at 10:30, but some of the animals can be visited outside before that time.
  • The park, including the barns, is stroller and wheelchair friendly.
  • There is a restroom located near the playground, as well as another one hidden away in the barn near the milking station.
  • Cow milking demonstration daily, at 11 AM (I believe).
  • Lakes and fishing available, with a small pond reserved just for children to fish.
  • Several picnic sites, as well as shelters, available.
  • If Suson looks too crowded, try heading back out and across Wells Rd to Kennedy Recreation Complex, where you’ll find a playground that’s likely to be less crowded.
