After hearing rave reviews about the World Bird Sanctuary located near 141 and 44, the kids and I decided to check it out!

What we discovered was a fun family outing tucked across the street from Lone Elk Park. It’s interesting, educational, and unique.

Here’s what you need to know before you go:

  • Handicap/stroller accessible, though much of the terrain is mulch or gravel-covered.
  • Exhibits both inside and outside, with the majority outside.
  • Map and plenty of info available on their website.
  • Free, though donations are welcome. Several donation boxes located throughout the sanctuary.
  • Nice new restroom facility with a baby changing station.
  • Plenty of benches and rocking chairs to encourage you to take a break and enjoy the lovely surroundings.
  • Several picnic tables, with some under shelters.
  • Expect to see birds, especially eagles and raptors. There are also some snakes, lizards and other reptiles.
  • You might just get a chance to pet Dumpling, the pet chicken!
  • Seasonal shows and animal encounters
