Labor Day weekend is upon us, and that means many fun options! With the gorgeous weather we’re having, it’s the perfect time to get out with the family!

Head to the ever-popular “Rocketship Park” (aka Deer Creek Park) in Maplewood for some frugal family fun.

Maplewood’s Maple Days are running now through September 5 with the following times: Friday, 5-11PM; Saturday, 1-11PM; Sunday, 1-10PM. There are carnival rides, food, entertainment, and the wonderful playground! Admission and parking are free, but of course there will be plenty of opportunities to spend your hard-earned cash.

So why didn’t anyone tip me off to this and get entered for our giveaway? 🙂 You all know about wonderful events and deals around town, so do share!

Labor Day is less than a week away! Hard as that may be to believe, you probably are looking for something to do over the holiday weekend…

St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church is hosting their annual GreekFest this weekend: Saturday and Sunday, 11-9 and Monday, 11-8. The church is located on the east side of Forest Park, at Kingshighway. Click here for directions. Free parking is available in the BJC parking garage. Folk dancing, Greek music, a marketplace and lots of Greek food to purchase…sounds like fun!

Trying to figure out what the family’s going to do this weekend? Check out my original post about the Festival of Nations at Tower Grove Park and have some frugal family fun!

The International Institute’s Festival of Nations at Tower Grove Park is Saturday and Sunday, August 28-29 from 10AM to about 6PM each day. Admission and entertainment are free, but there will certainly be places to spend the cash too if you want (think food)! In addition, a free shuttle will be running during the festival; see the schedule for the shuttle here.

Sounds like a fun, frugal way to use a Saturday and expose the kids to various world cultures. If you attend, please let us know what you think of it!

With thanks again to ArchCityHomes, here is a listing of free concerts in the St. Louis/St. Charles area this week. Please confirm location and time before you head out. Not much more summertime left in St. Louey!

Sneak in a little history before the school year really takes off by visiting Faust Park this Saturday or Sunday from 1-5 for reenactors in period costumes, demonstrations, and tours of the Historic Village. That’s some serious frugal family fun!

My husband loves this kind of thing, so we might just check it out. Any of the rest of you fans of time-period villages and festivals?

Frugalouis Find!

I was alerted today to an unusual event taking place this Saturday on Creve Coeur LakeDragon Boat Races! Yes, indeed, this Saturday is the annual Gateway Dragon Boat Festival. Here’s more info in case you’re interested in taking the family out to lovely Creve Coeur Park for some frugal Saturday fun:

  • Races start at 9AM, with the award ceremony taking place about 3PM
  • Food and non-alcoholic drink will be available for purchase
  • You are welcome to bring your own food and drink (including alcohol)
  • There is no cost to watch, but you might want to take a chair or blanket

If you go, we’d love to hear what it was like. Who knows, my family might end up there too!
